Medical Cannabis Bike Tour funds are being used to pay for a unique clinical trial clinical trial using cannabinoids (THC and CBD) as a treatment for patients with glioblastomas ( brain cancers).
The clinical trial program is being organized by scientists, Dr Guillermo Velasco and Dr Manuel Guzman at the Complutense University in Madrid with the backing of GEINO (Grupo Español de Investigación en Neurooncología). Please check our news section for progress updates.
The research has two main objectives:
- To study the way cannabinoids promote the death of cancer cells.
- To study how cannabinoids can best be combined with other anti-cancer agents for the treatment of gliomas and other types of tumors.
Data from experiments already carried out by the medical research team has shown that cannabinoids can promote the death of cancer cells.
These findings are now being researched more thoroughly. The money donated from the MC Bike tour is currently being used for:
- Funding expenses for the developing of experiments aimed at investigating the mechanism by which cannabinoids promote cancer cell death and to optimize the use of cannabinoids in combination with other anti-cancer agents.
- Funding the salary of some of the researchers involved in these studies.
- Funding costs to promote a new clinical trial to investigate the effect (as a first line therapy) of the combined administration of cannabinoids and temozolomide in brain cancer patients.
